NEW BRITAIN — Students of the Middle East at Central Connecticut State University got a fresh perspective on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict Monday from a seasoned foreign policy analyst.

Mark Perry, a major authority in Washington, D.C., on Hamas, the Palestinians and Israel, talked about Gaza in the wake of recent attacks, calling his talk, “After Gaza: The Catastrophic Status of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.”(more)

NEW BRITAIN — One of the biggest crowds of the year saw one of Central’s worst home losses in years.

Six Sacred Heart players were in double-figures, including a 21-point effort from Corey Hassan and 16 from Joey Henley as the Pioneers drubbed Central 101-67 at Detrick Gym before 2,091 fans.(more)

NEW BRITAIN — Theater students from Central Connecticut State University made an impressive showing at the northeast regional competition of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival last month, with five winners overall and two slated to go to the national competition in Washington, D.C.

Those two, actress Ashley Carvalho and director Doug Oliphant, are the first ever from the school to be invited to compete at the Kennedy Center’s national festival, according to university spokesman Mark McLaughlin. If they win, their reward will be a $3,000 scholarship applied to their tuition.(more)

Blue Devils fall at home to Farleigh Dickinson

NEW BRITAIN — Fairleigh Dickinson got 23 points from Cameron Tyler and 22 from John Galvin had 22 as the Knights knocked off Central Connecticut 80-73 at Detrick Gymnasium.

The loss dropped Central to 11-13 and 7-7 in the Northeast Conference while FDU moved to 7-18 and 6-8 in the league.(more)
